Welcome to Students International's Preschool located in rural Dominican Republic

The school has 20 students that range from 3-6 years old. The school year is divided into three trimesters giving the the students three vacations a year but for only one month at a time. The vacation times are from the middle of August till the middle of September. The second vacation time is Dec. 15 till January 20 and the third vacation time is the month of April. As you can see in the background the school is located in a very rural area with beautiful mountains surrounding it. Normally students start school at age 6 or 7 and walk to a nearby country school where most of the classes are over crowded and have very few resources. Because of the conditions and the lack of resources it is very common for students to struggle in school and quit at a young age and never learn to read and write. So because of these problems and challenges Students International decided to start a preschool in this community. Now the children can learn to read, write and do simple math before entering in the public school. We also have the ability to teach them many character building skills and also fill them wtih the knowledge and word of God. The school also provides one meal a day for the children. Praise God for His faithfullness to make this vision possible.

Johanna Berroa is the director of the school. She has been working with Students Internationl for several years and has a huge heart and passion for the children and the parents of the children of Mata Gorda.

Alberto de los Santos is Johanna's assistent and teaches some of the classes. Alberto is very talented in music and has been a big blessing to the school.

This building serves as community center, school and is where the church Ministerio de Gracia meets on Sunday morning and during the week as well.

Here you can see Alberto leading the children in music which he does each morning.
